USAF Mobile Water Supply (MWS) Fire Practice Test

Before a new MWS unit goes into service, its basic operability must be verified on the road. The Manufactures Road Test is designed to confirm roadworthiness—handling, braking, steering, suspension, tires, lights, and overall drivability—under real driving conditions. This ensures the vehicle can operate safely and reliably in the field, catching any issues from manufacture before it is put into service.

The other tests address different concerns. A hydrostatic test checks the strength and integrity of pressurized systems, not how the vehicle drives. A purchase acceptance test confirms the delivered unit matches contract specs, rather than proving it can be safely operated on the road. An independent pump certification test verifies pump performance, typically by an external certifier, not the vehicle’s overall road readiness.
